Our very own Dr. Malika Hollinside has published her first article with the California Department of Education and will present at their annual conference later this month in San Diego! Her article is attached and is a GREAT read…VERY interesting! We are so proud and honored that she is an integral part of Sisters of Nia!
Had a GREAT time at our annual Nia retreat with our 7th grade girls! We all realized we’re stronger than we thought we were, individually and collectively, physically and emotionally. We welcomed two new girls to the group, which made us even stronger. The girls all accomplished some great feats and we all enjoyed spending time together…what a great way to start the new Nia year!
Sisters of Nia, Inc. is again part of the BIG Day of Giving – our region’s giving challenge where, over a 24 hour period from midnight to midnight, we will join hundreds of other nonprofits to make our region #1 as the most generous community in the country on this national day of giving!
Last year, Sisters of Nia successfully raised over $4,500 with the support and donations from many of you. The funds allowed us to award two scholarships to our high school graduates, offset expenses related to parent-daughter events which allowed us to charge minimal to no fees, and also offset some general program expenses.
This year, our goal is to raise $10,000, and with your support we intend to do so. We want to expand our program during the next year and also want to bring back our low-cost, two-week summer performing arts camp. In addition, we need to purchase a projector and screen for workshops and presentations. In addition, a portion of funds raised this year will be allocated toward an organizational growth consultant.
